Moto West Grand Prix Announces New Races, New Classes, New Courses For 2014 Moto West Grand Prix, the organization that brought motorcycle road racing back to Willow Springs International Raceway, will build on the success of its inaugural season by hosting a nine-round race series in 2014. “Our first season successfully re-established racing at the course that is synonymous with motorcycle racing in Southern California,” says Greg Nulman, owner of Motoyard track days and the founder of Moto West Grand Prix. “In 2014, we are going to take this series and our sport to the next level. We will provide racers, sponsors, fans and supporters a race series that reflects the excitement and passion that only motorcycles can evoke.” The series will incorporate five races at the main 2.5-mile Willow Springs course – The Fastest Road in the West – and two at the tight, twisty 1.8-mile Streets of Willow circuit. In addition, Moto West Grand Prix will visit Buttonwillow Raceway Park for two rounds in 2014. Alongside the Expert and Advanced Level Races, MWGP plans on running a nine round “Novice race series”. In addition, Moto West Grand Prix will offer new classes for lightweight twins like the Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the Honda CBR500, as well as revamping its Battle Of The Twins Lightweight class to accommodate racers who want to compete on air-cooled Ducatis, Triumph twins and stock-engined 650cc twins from Kawasaki and Suzuki. Returning will be the popular Ducati Cup classes, as well as the bracket classes, designed to allow racers compete against others who are racing with similar lap times, regardless of machine type. Coming back by popular demand is the class that brought some of the most exciting and competitive racing – the “Run What You Brung” class, which was designed for advanced track day riders to try their hand in racing with the minimal bike preparation. Another substantial change MWGP plans to implement is the gridding system. “After speaking to many racers and receiving positive feedback we have decided on gridding most classes by qualifying times as opposed to points. Grid-by-qualifying system will give equal opportunity to all competing racers to improve their grid position on every race weekend. The technical back-end of the timing and scoring system is being programmed as we speak and we will keep you posted on our progress”. Get ready to take on the competition in the newest race series in the West!
