Erik Buell Racing (EBR) Returns to Road America for 2013 AMA Superbike Races The EBR AMA Superbike team will return to Road America for the Subway Superbike doubleheader here 5/31 through 6/2 at the historic Elkhart Lake, WI racetrack. “This is our home track and a lot of our supporters will be on hand” says Erik Buell, team owner and CEO of Erik Buell Racing, a small East Troy, Wisconsin motorcycle manufacturer and engineering consulting company, “We always enjoy meeting our fans and the big turnout is very inspiring. Road America is a tough track and the team has been hard at work getting ready. We are hoping for solid results” EBR, founded by Mr. Buell in 2009, designs and builds American sport bikes. The first EBR motorcycle produced is the exotic 1190 RS racing at Road America. It is a Superbike built in very limited numbers and is designed to be competitive in the AMA Superbike series with very few modifications. EBR is the only American manufacture competing in the Superbike series, and the multiple top five and podium finishes earned by EBR in 2012 AMA Pro Superbike series demonstrate just how competitive this new motorcycle is. EBR finished third in the manufacturers standings in 2012, a stunning achievement for the first season. Rider Geoff May will be in the saddle of the #99 Team Hero 1190RS, sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and AMSOIL. Geoff is an extremely talented AMA racer with a bright future ahead of him. Aaron Yates is aboard the #20 Team AMSOIL/Hero 1190RS, and is also a very experienced AMA rider with several championships and a Superbike podium on his resume. “I truly enjoy being with the EBR team and am looking forward to our second season on the EBR 1190RS” says Geoff, “It is an amazing motorcycle already, and being able to work side by side with the guys who actually designed the bike is exciting.” Aaron also expressed his feelings, “I have had a long and successful career in AMA Superbike, and it is really something special to now be racing an American motorcycle in this class.” Hero MotoCorp Ltd is an Indian Company and is the world’s largest producer of two-wheeled vehicles. In 2012 they signed strategic agreements with EBR to not only sponsor the EBR AMA Superbike team, a first for any Indian company, but also to develop new models using EBR’s cutting edge technology and expertise in the motorcycle market. AMSOIL, based in Superior, Wisconsin, is a world leader in synthetic lubricant technology and was the world’s first manufacturer of API-qualified synthetic motor oil. More, from a press release issued by Ben Young Racing: THORNBURY, ON – Ben Young, coming off of his best AMA Pro GoPro Daytona Sportbike finish of 8th place in the 72nd running of the Daytona 200, is eager to get back to business this weekend at the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America Elkhart Lake, WI – May 31 – June 2. Although the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona Sportbike season opener at Daytona International Speedway seems like it was half a season away the 19 year old Canadian road racer has kept himself busy. In addition to his ongoing training, Young took some time to connect with fans through interviews on Canada’s Raceline Radio Network, US-based Next Moto Champion Radio and Michigan City’s WIMS AM 1420. Additionally the resident of Thornbury Ontario spoke at Chelmsford Valley District Composite School’s Career Day about his passion for racing on behalf sponsor Gilles Bolduc of Tim Hortons-Sudbury. The young pilot’s Daytona 200 result seemed to make an impression on local Thornbury Home Hardware owner Phil Havens as he offered additional support to ensure Young would be able to continue his progress this season. “Ben is a fine young man and I’m impressed by his commitment to his sport. I know how hard he works at his day-to-day job with his father’s company Scotbuild Developments. It’s apparent he applies this same work ethic at the track.” said Havens. Not one to turn down an opportunity to get in some additional track-time Young headed to Shannonville Motorsports Park in Ontario for a fun weekend on his Honda RS 125. However a freak slow-speed high side ended his playtime early resulting in a minor hairline fracture of his left foot. When asked about his injury and the forthcoming Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America Young stated; “It was so weird. I was taking it easy on the first lap then I started to pick up the pace but not even close to full on. It was one of the highest high-sides I’ve had. I was lucky to get away with only a fracture and I’ve been resting my foot since the incident. It’s not one hundred percent yet but I’m ready. Road America is one of my favourite circuits and I can’t wait to get back out there on my BYR Yamaha R6!” Road America is one of the most historic venues in all of motorsports. Located in Elkhart Lake, Wis., this beautiful track is the longest circuit on the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing schedule.
