Over 1300 Race Entries Make WERA’s Cycle Jam a Huge Success
ALTON, Va. Hundreds of racers gathered at Virginia International Raceway for WERA’s annual Cycle Jam from May 20-22, comprising over 1300 entries during three days of racing.
Round three of the WERA Dunlop National Endurance Series was held on Friday, May 20 with a packed grid of fifty teams. Two red flags during the four-hour race kept the leaders close together, but Vesrah Suzuki was able to stay at the top with Tray Batey and John Jacobi at the helm.
Team Velocity Racing crossed the finish line in second, giving Chuck Ivey, Reuben Frankenfield and Mark Crozier the Heavyweight Superstock victory. Army of Darkness was back at the top of the Mediumweight Superbike podium after finishing third overall with Ben Walters and Scott Fisher riding.
Josh Smith-Moore, Giovanni Rojas and Keith Marshall won Mediumweight Superstock for Dalke Motorsports, and Ghetto Customs’ Chris Parrish, Cale Swiger and Russell Stoddard won Lightweight Superbike on a Suzuki SV650.
Saturday’s WERA Sportsman Series racing lasted more than six hours, with 891 entries throughout the sixteen races. Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey was the only expert-level rider to get more than one win, taking the top spot in Formula 1 and Heavyweight Twins Superstock. In the competitive Superstock races, Vesrah’s Mark Junge won A Superstock, Arclight Suzuki’s Scott Harwell won B Superstock and Giovanni Rojas won C Superstock.
In the Novice Sportsman classes, Cory Burleson was the biggest winner with victories in B Superstock, B Superbike, C Superbike, and the both the Superbike and Superstock divisions of Lightweight Twins. Charlie Coleman and Dennys Passeto each won two races. Coleman won A Superstock and Formula 1, and Passeto was at the front of Heavyweight Twins Superbike and Superstock.
Cycle Jam concluded on Sunday, May 22 with the WERA Michelin National Challenge Series. In the expert division, Batey came away with wins in Formula 1, 750 Superstock and Heavyweight Twins Superstock.
RacerSupply.com’s Ben Thompson got his first win in Open Superstock and later won 750 Superbike. XT Racing rider David Weber won 600 Superstock, and Giovanni Rojas was the leader in 600 Superbike. Local rider Brian Kcraget won Formula 2, while Dave Yaakov took off to win Lightweight Twins Superstock.
Burleson was again the top novice rider, with wins in Lightweight Twins Superstock, 750 Superbike and 750 Superstock. J.B. Layman took decisive victories in 600 Superstock and 600 Superbike.
The Open Superstock race, open to novices for the first time this year, was won by Michael Dillon. Passeto earned another Heavyweight Twins Superstock trophy, and Brandon Faulkner took a narrow win in Formula 2.
WERA will be heading west for round four of the WERA Dunlop National Endurance Series and the WERA Michelin National Challenge Series at Willow Springs Raceway from June 4-5.
