Five-time and defending AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin completed his sweep of the Infineon Raceway weekend with a dominant, flag-to-flag Superbike race win Sunday. Mladin earned all points available to him on the weekend, re-taking the Championship point lead, 227 to 211 over teammate Ben Spies, after seven of 17 races. Spies raced closely with Aaron Yates throughout Sunday’s 28-lap race, but Yates came out of the duel with second place. Spies put on a last-lap charge to pass Yates but had to settle for third. American Honda’s Jake Zemke was part of the race for second place in the first half of the final, but lapped traffic put him out of touch and forced him to concentrate on defending his position from Parts Unlimited Ducati Austin’s Neil Hodgson. Zemke was successful, and Hodgson finished fifth. Zemke’s teammate Miguel Duhamel came home sixth and happy with the progress his team made with his CBR1000RR Superbike over the weekend. Hodgson’s teammate Eric Bostrom struggled to match the pace he ran in morning warm-up (when he was fourth-quickest) and was relegated to seventh. Josh Hayes finished eighth on his Attack Kawasaki ZX-10R, well clear of Mat Mladin Motorsports Suzuki’s Marty Craggill, who passed Hotbodies Racing Triangles Cycles Honda Larry Pegram on the last lap for ninth.
