Racer Tyler Linders faces three months in a wheelchair while his broken pelvis heals, and also needs surgery on broken bones and torn tendons in his crushed right foot. That’s the update from the 17-year-old’s father, Rob Linders, who called Roadracing World today. Rob Linders bought a used motorhome and drove Tyler back home to Mission Viejo, California after Tyler was released from a Milwaukee hospital. The 2100-mile trip took 39 hours straight through, according to Rob Linders. Tyler Linders was injured in a multi-bike crash at the start of an AMA Pro SuperSport race held a week ago last Sunday, at Road America. Linders, who started on the fifth row of the grid, had slowed to avoid crashed bikes in front of him when he was hit from behind by another racer, who was coming from several rows farther back on the grid. Linders was knocked off his bike and then run over by another rider or riders. The crash left Linders’ pelvis broken on both sides, in addition to his foot injuries. The crash was set off when row-two starter Tomas Puerta wheelied at the start and drifted to the right, into front-row starter Ricardo Valdez, who crashed in front of most of the field. Other riders who crashed and were injured included Hayden Gillim, Shawn Hill, Roi Holster, Caroline Olsen and Alex Shaw.
