Matsushima Performance & Tuning, a motorcycle performance shop based in Southern California, ran the MPTRacing.Com team under owner/crew chief Grant “Yasuji” Matsushima in the AMA Roadracing Championship in 2005. The team looks forward to building upon their success they achieved in the 2005 season. Grant will again be running his team in the AMA Roadracing Championships for the 2006 season. The team will now be competing under the name Matsushima Performance Suzuki, as part of the Suzuki rider development program. Matsushima Performance Suzuki has announced their rider line-up for the 2006 AMA Pro Racing season. Danny Eslick has re-signed to ride the Matsushima Performance Suzuki GSXR 600s in Formula Xtreme and Supersport. Danny started 2005 off with a 4th place finish in the Daytona 200 and capped off the season with a 3rd place in the Formula Xtreme Championship. The 19 year old rider from Oklahoma remarked, “I am very excited to be racing the all new Suzuki GSXR 600 and being teamed up with Blake Young this season! I have been riding quite a bit of Supermoto to keep busy and help stay in shape this winter. Thank you to Suzuki, Grant, Kelly, and everyone that helped make 2005 such an awesome year for me. I am really looking forward to racing for Matsushima Performance Suzuki again this year!” The team has also re-signed Jeremiah Johnson, who was running in 8th place in the Formula Xtreme Championship before an early season crash prematurely ended his season. After extensive rehab, Jeremiah is ready to campaign his Matsushima Performance Suzuki GSXR 600s in the Formula Xtreme Championship, as well as selected Supersport races. “I am really focusing on the 2006 season with a new intensity, and am eagerly waiting to get on the brand new for 2006 Suzuki GSXR 600s. So far they seem like they are going to be some really fast bikes, especially after Grant gets done with them,” observed the rider from Hawaii. New to the Matsushima Performance Suzuki team for 2006 is young gun Blake Young. Blake finished the 2005 Championship with an 11th in Supersport and 15th in Superstock. The Wisconsin rider also took home the AMA Horizon award for the season. The former multiple amateur dirt track national #1 plate holder will be riding the Matsushima Performance Suzuki GSXR 600s in Formula Xtreme and Supersport Championships. The Matsushima Performance Suzuki team is anxiously anticipating the challenges and excitement of the 11 round AMA Roadracing Championship, and looks forward to a great season with their sponsors and fans. Team owner Grant Matsushima stated, “I am definitely excited to get the 2006 season under way, continuing our campaign in Formula Xtreme and Supersport with the all new 2006 Suzuki GSXR 600, in combination with Danny Eslick returning to the team, Horizon award winner Blake Young and [the] Haole from Maui, Jeremiah Johnson, returning to the team after extensive rehab….”
