“STEPS TO THE CORKSCREW” FUNDRAISER ALLOWS FANS TO PUT THEIR STAMP ON LAGUNA SECA

MONTEREY, Calif. – Andretti Hairpin, Rainey Curve, Rahal Straight … and now your name can be a permanent part of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the “Steps to the Corkscrew” fund-raising program, benefiting the legendary circuit’s Improvement Fund.

“Fans from all over the world can now put their personal stamp on this world-famous facility, as we build a brick pathway that will start at Turn 10 and end with the creation of an 80-foot by 100-foot patio overlooking the Corkscrew,” said Gill Campbell, general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

“We have so many different forms of racing out here – Superbike, Historic, Champ Car, American Le Mans and dozens of motorcycle and car clubs. But they all have one thing in common – the continued financial viability of the track. Proceeds are going to the SCRAMP Improvement Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation we’ve established to accept donations,” Campbell explained. “The money will go to the continued upgrading of spectator and racer amenities and to making the necessary track improvements to preserve this world-renowned circuit.”

Bricks can be ordered in three sizes, a standard 4″ X 8″ brick is $150, an 8″ X 8″ is $250 and a 12″ X 12″, which can also include a logo, is $500. Fans can also purchase replicas of their bricks, complete with felt bottoms and commemorative plaques, for their home or office. A 4″ X 8″ replica is an additional $50 and an 8″ X 8″ replica is $75. No replica is offered for the 12″ X 12″ brick.

Installation on the new “Steps to the Corkscrew” patio and ascending pathway begins following the 2004 race season, allowing fans to see their stamp on immortality during the 2005 racing season.
