Racer/Team Owner Kyle Wyman is planning to have surgery on Tuesday, July 8, just days before he will try to compete in two classes in back-to-back AMA Pro Road Race events July 11-13 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and July 19-20 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“I think I’ve got some scar tissue breaking up from when I broke my [right] leg in 2009 at Daytona,” Wyman told Roadracingworld.com Thursday. “This will be my 10th operation on this leg. It’s been hardware in and out and all of this stuff. I think it’s finally to the point of a fine tune, clean up some stuff and I should be fine. I think it’s a good sign that this stuff is starting to break up and I’m going to have some mobility where it needs to be.”

Wyman plans to have surgery at the hands of Dr. Maury Harwood at the South Valley Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, in Morgan Hill, California, just north of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. But the proximity of Dr. Harwood’s practice to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca had nothing to do with the timing of the procedure.

“It’s just working out that I’m going to be racing near him. If I was racing in Daytona next week I would still have to do it [now],” said Wyman. “I have floating fragments, and every once in a while they will actually stop my leg from bending. They will get in the way like a door jamb, so they have to come out.”

Wyman said the procedure will be minimally-invasive, but it will still complicate his efforts in racing his Kyle Wyman Racing/Millennium Technologies Yamaha in the Daytona SportBike class and his XR1200 in the Harley-Davidson class.

“It’s gonna be tough, but I’m going to be thinking of my grandfather [Harvey C. Rousseau, who passed away June 26, 2014],” said Wyman. “He was a tough man.”

Instead of his normal competition number 33, Wyman has received special permission to race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the number 11, his grandfather’s NASCAR competition number when he started racing in the late-1940s.
