Palmer, Jones and Kraget Take Wins At Summit National

ASRA Sprint Series Round 2 Sanctioned by AMA May 27, 2013 Summit Point Circuit Summit Point, WV

Summit Point, WV – Take the pole on Sunday, win on Monday was the reoccurring theme in the AMA-sanctioned ASRA Sprint Series at the Summit Point Circuit. In each of the premier classes, it was the top qualifier who took home the win, leaving the rest of the field to battle it out for the runner-up position.

First up was the ASRA SuperStock class, and John Palmer wasted no time establishing his intention of winning the race. Palmer trailed David Loikits only one lap before moving to the point and showing the field the way to the checker. Once Palmer moved his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to the point, Loikits settled into second until lap seven when Eric Helmbach pushed his BMW S1000RR past Loikits’ Suzuki. Palmer held on for the win, Helmbach in the second position and Loikits took third. After his second-place finish, Helmbach takes a two-point lead in the SuperStock championship heading into the next event at VIR June 15-16.

The ASRA SportBikes were up next and defending champion Mark Miller, Jr. had to settle for second position when a red flag came out on lap eight of the nine-lap final. With scoring reverting back to the last green flag lap, it was Ryan Jones on his Suzuki GSX-R600 who was credited with the win, Miller on a Yamaha YZF-R6 in second and Donny Kelley riding a Suzuki GSX-R600 in third. With his first win of the season, Jones takes the SportBike points lead by nine points over Miller after the second race of the season.

As the ASRA ThunderBike riders took the green for their final it was pole-sitter Brian Kcraget who was the most surprised when Ray Hofman on his Ducati 749 took the lead at the completion of the first lap. Kcraget, who qualified his Suzuki well clear of the rest of the class, kept his head down and set off in pursuit of defending ThunderBike Champion Hofman. After seven laps Kcraget was able to get by Hofman and lead the final two circuits to take the victory by .067 second. The third position went to Art Diaz riding his Buell XB9. The second-place finish puts Hofman up by 17 points after round two of the Championship.

In Amateur action, it was Benjamin Seville on his Suzuki GSX-R750 taking the win in SuperStock, Ryan Lutz aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6 in SportBike and Tommy Wilson on his Suzuki SV650 in ThunderBike winning their final events on Monday.
