Jody Barry Wins Three WERA National Challenge Series Races At Grattan Raceway

PIRELLI/WERA NATIONAL AT GRATTAN IS A WRAP!

WERA Motorcycle Roadracing visited Grattan Raceway in Michigan for a two day Sportsman and combined the Sportsman Series with the Pirelli/WERA National Challenge for Sunday’s races. Saturday saw a deluge of rain in the morning with clearing as racing commenced at 1pm and the majority of races saw an almost dry track. Sunday the weather was good and the track only had a few puddles but was very green after the “cleansing rain” on Saturday. It was a rough day for many racers who pushed their envelopes over the edge but the good news only one rider needed a transport and she will heal and come back to conquer some more racing – best wishes Julie on a fast recovery all the other riders were treated and released at the track with many of them getting a re-tech and coming back out to try again.

Sunday saw local Taylor Knapp (44) taking wins in Open Superstock and Formula 1 on the Witchkraft Racing Yamaha 1000. Jason Farrell (86) took second on his Kawasaki 1000 and Garrick Schneidermann (52) shared the podium in Open. Corey Heflin (21) and Schniedermann shared the Formula 1 podium on their Yamaha 1000s. Gary Virgin (75) on his Yamaha 1000 took the Novice win in Open with Andy Walters (621) on his Suzuki 1000 and Brock Schmalzried on his Triumph 675 . The National Heavyweight Superbike Twins Expert win went to Dylan Tent (11) on his Duc 959 with Aaron Hardiman (72) on his Triumph 675 and Tyler King (737 on his KTM 1190 rounding out the podium. Novice saw Ryan Pritt (65) on his Duc 1199 with James Blasius (22) on his Triumph 675 and Mark White (23) on his Buell 1125 in that order take the checker.

600cc Superstock Expert had Nick Shahin (195) on his Suzuki 600 followed by Jody Barry (717) and Blake Holt (223) on their Yamaha 600s. Novice win went to Jason Goodhand (777) on his Honda 600 with Will Wildner (817) on a Suzuki 600 and Thomas Bowen (280) on his Yamaha 600 rounding out the top three. Formula 2 Expert was Chris Parrish (128) first Simon Buric (304) second and Jon Crawford (592) third all on Suzuki SV650s. Novice winner was Anthony R. Paul (425) on his SV650 then Texan Aaron Graham (624) on his Kawasaki 300 second with Yaunce Long (464) on his SV650 third. 750 Superbike Experts had Barry (771) take the win over Shahin (195) on his Suzuki 750 then Jordan Johnson (35) on his Yamaha 600. Novice winner was Wildner (817) with Bowen (280) and Ciegi Bustle (812) on a Yamaha 600.

The purse paying 600cc Superbike Expert saw Barry (771) taking the win and the $350.00 check with Johnson (35) in second for $250.00 and Blasius (124) taking third and $150.00. Novice 600cc Superbike had Goodhand (777) on top followed by Wildner (817) and Kenny Hwang (729) on his Suzuki 600. Lightweight Twins Superstock Expert went to Jerry Reeves (728) followed by Chris Bays (621) only 0.336 behind and Aaron Bagwell (717) taking third – all on their SV650 machines. Paul (425) and Long (464) took first and second for the Novices.

750cc Superbike had the Experts finish with Barry (717) on top and Johnson (35) followed by Blasius (124) rounding out top three. Novice saw Goodhand (777) take another win with Blasius (22) and Bustle (812) following. The Michelin/WERA Superbike Race saw Farrell (86) take his Kawasaki 1000 to the front for the win followed by Schneiderman on his Yamaha 1000 then Gene Burcham (94) on his Kawasaki 1000.
