1. IMS transitions from from four wheels to two as MotoGP returns: A busy hum settled over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this week as preparations ramped up for the arrival of the world’s best motorcycle racers.

The seventh annual Red Bull Indianapolis GP visits from Aug. 8-10, the tenth of 18 races on the MotoGP World Championship schedule. Spain’s Marc Marquez returns to defend his title on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course while looking to extend his incredible 2014 record to a perfect 10-for-10 races won.

The defending World Champion will be pursued by 22 competitors from around the world including American Colin Edwards on the 16-turn, 2.591-mile course that includes a portion of the famed oval.

Fans will be treated to a full three days of on-track action in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and the AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series, while off the track there will be concerts and interactive fun on the popular Moto Midway and the Vendor Marketplace sponsored by Westfield Powersports. After the gates close at IMS on Friday and Saturday night, motorcycle enthusiasts are encouraged to attend Motorcycles on Meridian in downtown Indianapolis.

2. Red Bull Mini Moto hits Broad Ripple: Aspiring future MotoGP racers will showcase their talents at the Red Bull Mini Moto in Broad Ripple from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3, on Broad Ripple Avenue between Guilford Avenue and Carrollton Avenue in Indianapolis.

The event is open to riders 18 or older. Two-person teams will take turns racing mini bikes at speeds reaching 35 mph with the top three teams winning bragging rights and tickets to the 2014 Red Bull Indianapolis GP.

3. New scoring pylon dazzles fans at IMS : Race fans got their first look at the new third-generation scoring pylon over last week’s Kroger Super Weekend at the Brickyard and raved at its improved visibility and flexibility in providing information.

The new pylon is similar in size to the pylon that stood over the frontstraight just south of the entrance to Gasoline Alley but features full LED panels with video and animation capabilities.

For more details on the new pylon, see this fact sheet.
