Herfoss to Start from Pole for Swann Series Round 4 at Winton Raceway

2nd August 2014 – It was a Honda battle Royale at Winton Raceway today. The Honda CBR1000RR SPs of Troy Herfoss and Wayne Maxwell went head to head for the day’s honours, resulting in #17 Troy Herfoss taking Pole position heading into tomorrow’s Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike event and Maxwell securing P2.

Race 1 belonged to #47 Wayne Maxwell after a race restart saw him off the line well, but it was #17 Troy Herfoss that recorded the fastest lap of the race a 1:23.45 sec, a new Superbike lap record at Winton Raceway. #16 Josh Hook fought a valiant battle throughout the race to finish in 5th place with Stauffer unfortunately returning to the pits.

The second race of the day was another fantastic display of the might of the Honda CBR1000RR SP. The Superbike lap record was broken twice apiece by Herfoss and Maxwell during their Race 2 dual, only to finally be claimed by Herfoss on the penultimate lap, a 1:22.778 sec. The Goulburn-based rider also claimed the Race 2 victory, his efforts placing him on Pole heading into the 3 Swann Series races tomorrow. Superbike Race 3 today was cancelled after 2 Red Flags.

Herfoss is very pleased, saying “I am really happy with my pace today. It will be a very interesting day of racing tomorrow and not an easy one for Team Honda Racing with Jamie injured. Wayne was very strong today and I doubt it will be any different tomorrow, but I am looking forward to the battle and starting the second half of the season with a good points haul.”

Maxwell too was happy with the day’s result, “Today was an awesome day for Team Honda Racing. To dominate both races and be starting 1-2 tomorrow is great. Congratulations to Troy on the overall win. Tomorrow will definitely be a hard fought battle for the race win.”

Suffering with a fresh ankle injury from his Suzuka 8 Hour campaign, #27 Jamie Stauffer did what was necessary today to give himself the best chance for the Swann Series event tomorrow. Stauffer will start from P6 on the grid and the current championship leader is eager to see what he can achieve tomorrow. “Today was a challenge for us, but we moved forward throughout the day. It would have been good to have a run in Race 3, but it got cancelled so I will start from P6 on the grid and see what I can make happen tomorrow.”

#16 Josh Hook is looking forward to tomorrow’s races after a less than ideal day on the track today. “I did not go as well as I had hoped today. It was a difficult day on the track. We have a solid plan for tomorrow though so I will be looking to get a strong start and run at the front.”
