Graves Yamaha’s Jamie Hacking, who raced to an amazing sixth-place finish in Saturday’s AMA Superstock race in spite of riding with a freshly-plated 11-day-old broken collarbone, will not attempt to race in Supersport Sunday at Laguna Seca.

Factory Yamaha Team Manager Tom Halverson told Roadracingworld.com earlier in the weekend that due to the weekend’s unique schedule Hacking could wait until the Superstock race was over before deciding if he would qualify or race in Supersport.

But after his crash in Superstock qualifying and his amazing but draining performance in the 17-lap Superstock final, which helped him retain his Superstock Championship point lead, Hacking decided to not race in Supersport.

“I can’t. I just can’t,” said Hacking, the defending AMA Supersport Champion, in his motorhome moments after the Superstock race. “This was hard for me. That was all I had right there. It’s hard to let that thing (Supersport number one plate) go off my bike, but the Superstock class is my focus now.”

Coming into the Laguna Seca event, Hacking was third in the AMA Supersport Championship point standings, 36 points behind leader Tommy Hayden.
