Yamalube/Y.E.S./Graves Yamaha rider Garrett Gerloff earned the MotoAmerica Supersport pole position with a lap of 1:31.749 during final qualifying Saturday at Road Atlanta.

Gerloff’s lap was 1.4 seconds faster than anyone else in the field.

The final qualifying position of Gerloff and several other riders was not known until well after the end of the session due to technical problems with MotoAmerica’s TrackIntel timing and scoring system.

According to the best information available at post time, Gerloff was the fastest and followed by M4 SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki’s David Anthony (1:33.197) and RoadRace Factory Yamaha’s Tomas Puerta (1:33.281).

Bobby Fong qualified 16th, but he will not compete in Saturday’s Supersport race. Fong crashed in the wet Supersport race Sunday, April 12 at Circuit of The Americas, and in that crash he broke his left humerus. Fong tried to ride on Friday, but he said he was having trouble controlling his Latus Motors Racing/Castrol Triumph due to weakness in his injured arm. Fong and his team decided to withdraw him from the weekend and focus on his recovery before Round Three of the series at VIRginia International Raceway in May.
