Red Bull/RoadRace Factory rider Jake Gagne broke his right collarbone and suffered a separated right shoulder when he crashed during Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

“Cam [Cameron Beaubier] was already gone,” Gagne told Roadracingworld.com, “but I really wanted to get second. We were struggling with the bike all weekend, so I was riding it pretty close to the limit and just made a mistake.”

Gagne lost traction and fell off the lowside in the right-hand exit of the Turn Three chicane. The 20-year-old San Diego, California resident immediately felt he hurt his shoulder, but he and his team didn’t initially realize he had a bone fracture.

“We just thought it was separated,” said Gagne, “so we were trying to put it back in. It wouldn’t go back in, so we went to the hospital to get it checked out.”

Gagne’s team owner, Danny Walker, told Roadracingworld.com that he plans to fly Gagne to the National Surgery Center in Los Gatos, California, to see orthopedic surgeon Dr. Maury Harwood as early as Monday. The hope, Walker said, was to see if it is possible to repair Gagne’s shoulder so he will be able to ride at the 2013 AMA Pro season finale September 27-29 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
