Benny Solis recaps round 2 of the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha

And just like that, the Superbike Shootout ends with a BANG.

The three round GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout concluded this past weekend. Teams assembled at the modern Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. for a last opportunity to contest this popular series.

North Hollywood, California. based Benny Solis & his Team H35 arrived carrying great momentum after getting up to speed during round 2.

The team found a fairly soft suspension setting that unlocked competitive laptimes. This was confirmed during the qualifying session when Benny was able to secure the second fastest time of the Dynojet Pro Sportbike division.

The race began with the usual furious start that fans have grown accustomed to seeing from this series. By the exit of the 1st corner Benny had been relegated to 4th position. Mindful that the front runners were liable to check-out at any moment, Benny pressed the vamos button, moving up to 3rd and on a mission to recapture his 2nd place. This valiant effort was interrupted when a slightly slower & overly enthusiastic rider attempted a futile passing maneuver that resulted in a race-ending collision. Benny was thrown from his cart-wheeling Yamaha, suffering a concussion and significant bruising in the process.

Although this result is disappointing, the team take great solace in the fact that they have developed their Yamaha R6 to a machine capable of running up front. With this awesome Superbike Shootout series complete, Team H35 is excited to rejoin the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season.

Benny Solis – #35

“Although during my race at Miller I got together with another rider and crashed, I’m still happy with how things where going throughout the weekend!

The Superbike Shootout series was great! And after my switch from a Honda to a Yamaha, these 3 races I was able to get used to the bike and keep moving forward each time out. I felt my best at Miller and I’m excited to keep that progression rolling into the second round of AMA at Road America! As always my gratitude goes out to all our sponsors Humberto Baca, Alpinestars, Arai Helmets, Motul, Dunlop, Poncho Rangel, GPR Stabilizer, Galfer, SpeedCell, Renthal, ”Z”, Evol Technology, InHouse Suspension, YoyoDyne, RK Chains, Oakley, Zero Gravity, Moto Club di Santa Monica, Akrapovic, C-5, E-Z UP”

Humberto Baca – Team Owner

“The Superbike Shootout series was an excellent opportunity to test out our new Yamaha and get it ready for Road America. Benny’s lap times have shown that he’s ready to run with the top guys!”

Dion Device Sponsored Rider Hayes Crowned Superbike Shootout Champion at Miller

Richmond, Calif. – May 29 2014 – Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, hosted the third and final round of the new GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented by Yamaha the weekend of May 24-25. Cameron Beaubier and Josh Hayes represented Dion Device in the Pro Superbike race: both of their Monster Energy Graves Yamaha YZF-R1s use the Dion Device brake lever protector, which is distributed by SpeedMob, Inc.

For Hayes, it was “3, 2, 1, championship!” as the rider of the No. 4 R1 took both the win and the Superbike Shootout championship on Sunday. Hayes finished third in round one at Auto Club Speedway and second in round two at Sonoma Raceway. He ended the three-round series with top honors in both the race and the points chase. In the race, Hayes had a lead of nearly 13 seconds. In the championship, he had a 14-point advantage.

Beaubier, riding the No. 2 R1, put his Dion Device brake lever protector to the test when he crashed in Sunday’s Pro Superbike race. Beaubier, who had started the race on the pole, continued and finished 14th. The finish may not have been what Beaubier wanted, but after finishing second and first in the opening rounds, it was enough to give Beaubier second in the Superbike Shootout championship.
