Uribe Shows Top 6 Pace In European Moto2 Championship At Montmelo

Barcelona played host to the second round of the FIM CEV Repsol European Moto2 Championship yesterday with Jayson Uribe once again on track with Team AGR.

Now in his second year of racing the ultra-competitive series, the step forward in terms of outright pace by the #36 is clear for all to see, with the gap to the leaders narrowed and Uribe once again fighting with some of the fastest Moto2 riders in the world week in, week out.

Qualifying well, Jayson made one of his typical lightning starts in the first encounter passing several riders to fight for 8th before a small technical gremlin resulted in an 11th place finish at the end of a hard fought 17 laps.

The second 79km race was shaping up to be even better than the first with Jayson locked in a multi-rider battle for 6th. Forced wide he would drop to 12th before a series of fast laps saw him determined to regain lost ground. Unfortunately a crash at the fast swooping turn 3 saw him crash out of contention, thankfully without serious injury.

Jayson Uribe – 11th & DNF: “I had a good weekend at the Circuit De Catalunya near Barcelona despite ending the day in hospital after a race 2 crash. I progressed much more than expected compared to last year, and we are on the right track with bike set up. Both practice days went well. Fairly uneventful, but good progress was made. We had some bad luck with “bad” tyres in qualifying and some mechanical troubles but we pulled through. Race 1 started out well. I made a good start and was battling for 8th position before I started having some problems with the motor. I fell back to 11th and tried my best to finish the race. In the end, 11th is where I ended up. My AGR team worked very hard to swap the motor for race 2, and soon enough, we were back on the grid. I had another good start, and was locked in a battle for 6th when I got pushed off the track and fell back to 12th. I was pushing to catch back up to 6th when unfortunately I crashed at turn 3 and ended up in the hospital. No serious injuries, just fractures in my nose and eye socket, and a sprained knee. I can’t thank my team enough for all of their hard work and support! We will bounce back in Valencia.”

Uribe will now travel back to the States where he will attend the FIM Superbike World Championship over the weekend of 7-9 July to take part in several media activities.

Hunter Sets Personal Best Lap Time In Moto3 Junior World Championship Event At Montmelo

Round 3 of the FIM CEV Repsol Junior Moto3 World Championship took place at the home of the Catalan GP – the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona with Chinese rider Hunter Su once again on track.

The youngster who was forced to make the huge step from national level competition and into the Junior World Championship when Moto3 national racing was stopped in Spain continues to impress with dedication, determination and commitment, and whilst he may not have made it onto the grid there were many positives to take from the weekend.

He smashed his personal best lap of the circuit time and again on Friday and was making significant steps in qualifying too, so there is a lot to be proud of and to be confident about ahead of the next round in Valencia.

Hunter Su: “Racing on my home circuit was a great feeling, especially with all my friends and family there to support me. I started the first day smashing my personal best lap time, and I felt really strong. I was able to keep the improvement going until qualifying where I just couldn’t go that extra bit faster to make it onto the grid. I can’t complain as I knew before the start of the season that racing in the Junior World Championship was a massive step. I plan to work harder both on and off the track and will push even harder to qualify for the next one! Thanks to my team, family and friends for the support!”
