The FIM Superbike World Championship will not race at Miller Motorsports Park in 2013 even though an agreement to hold another event in 2013 existed between Infront Motor Sports, the rights holder of the Superbike World Championship, and the track. In May 2012 Roadracing World interviewed Infront Motor Sports CEO Paolo Flammini and asked: “So the agreement with Miller Motorsports Park is just for this year, 2012?” Flammini answered: “No, it is valid also for 2013, and we will see what to do in the future.” Now, however, there will be no World Superbike event at Miller Motorsports Park next season. In Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s September 21 press release announcing it had secured a World Superbike event for three years beginning in 2013, the release stated: “World Superbike will take place September 27-29, 2013 and is the series’ only U.S. appearance.” That statement was backed up Saturday morning by Julian Thomas, Assistant Manager of the SBK Press Office. In a response to an e-mail inquiry from Roadracing World, Thomas wrote: “I think we can safely say that MMP [Miller Motorsports Park] is no longer on the calendar and that Laguna Seca will be the only WSBK race in North America, as Laguna’s release says.” As reported Friday, the FIM Supersport World Championship will not be coming to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2013. Classes of GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing are expected to support the event, but AMA Pro Racing officials at Homestead-Miami Speedway would not confirm that Friday.
