FIM Moto3 Racer Techer Penalized For Using Illegal ECU Mapping At Indy

2013 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix – Decision of the Race Direction A technical infringement was discovered during post-race technical control after the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix. An expert analysis was needed to confirm the problem. The machine of rider number 89 in the Moto3 class, Frenchman Alan Techer of the CIP Moto3 Team, was found to have an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) software map that was not the official map supplied by the engine manufacturer, as required under Art. 2.6.3.5.21)b. The Technical Director requested an expert analysis and confirmation from Dell’Orto, the official ECU Supplier for Moto3. The report was received and the non-conformity of the software map was confirmed. A Race Direction hearing was held on Thursday 22 August in Brno, and the decision of the Race Direction is to impose a grid penalty of 6 places on the rider for the following race, the bwin Grand Prix Ceske Republiky of 25 August 2013. No appeal was lodged. The decision of the Race Direction is final.
