CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway

July 27, 2014

Sean Dwyer won what could only be described as one of the most exciting Unlimited Grand Prix races of the CCS Florida region at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Stefano Mesa was out front from the start on his West Side Performance Suzuki GSX-R1000 with the pack tight and close behind him. With each pass across the start/finish line, Suzuki GSX-R1000 mounted-Sean Dwyer pulled up alongside Mesa, challenging for the lead and waiting for his chance to take over the top spot. Armando Ferrer was right on Dwyer’s tail with his DMS Motorsports Kawasaki ZX-10R and looking for a way around the leaders. One of those was a bold attempt at an outside pass through turn one.

“All I saw was a green flash and I thought, ‘Boy, this guy is brave out here,’” Dwyer stated after the race. “He was trying to go by me between me and the wall. That was pretty awesome. We were just about going in there three-wide. When the Shootout’s on the line, everybody steps up. These guys are for real, man. That was good stuff right there.”

Dwyer made his move at the half-way mark and took over the lead he would not relinquish.

Mesa didn’t give him an inch. “Mesa and I put some for real moves on each other back in the infield,” Dwyer stated. “I have pretty good braking stability and Stefano was turning really good. I was up the inside one time and he turned in on top of me and I was like, ‘Man you’ve got to trust a guy to ride like that,’ and we were handlebar to handlebar. If anybody made a mistake in that deal, it was gonna be a yard sale.”

Close behind Dwyer,

Mesa was constantly being challenged by Ferrer. As Dwyer started to put a little distance on the second spot, Mesa was able to keep Ferrer behind him when they crossed the finish line at the checkered flag.

“What a ride,” exclaimed Mesa after the race. “I mean, one of the best shootouts I’ve ever raced! Dwyer’s been riding amazing the whole day. I’ve been trying to keep up with him this weekend.”

Kawasaki ZX-10R-mounted Bruno Silva and Felipe MacLean rounded off the top five after a battle of their own.

“It’s been pretty nice being back with West Side Performance,” said Mesa on the podium. Their support’s always been great. My bikes have always been great and they’re always looking good. Martin helped me with this bike kind of building it. So, thanks to Martin. And, thanks to Addict by Bosi, my sponsor over here, and Dunlop tires for making some great, great tires and everybody that supports me.”

“So, that was pretty awesome and I had a little giggle,” Dwyer said after the race. “Now I’d better get serious. Stefano’s been beating up on me really good all year. I’m just tired of it. That was really good. I finally got him back. Got a little revenge.” He went on to thank Kid’s Cancer Foundation, Andrew Swensen, Dripping Wet, Hang Air Dryers, Woodcraft, GP Bikes, Graves Motorsports, Bell Helmets, his wife, and ended with a huge “Thanks everybody!”

A fresh set of Dunlop tires was presented to Dwyer for winning the Unlimited Grand Prix race while Dunlop shod. In fact, all three of these riders on Shootout podium were mounted on Dunlop tires. Yesterday’s podium was a Pirelli win, and today Dunlop dominated. “Dunlop Tires are unbelievable,” Dwyer proclaimed after the race. “Everybody up here is on Dunlops. If you want to be on the Shootout podium , you’ve got to be on US made Dunlops.”

Dwyer’s first victory of the day was during the Unlimited Superbike race, where he finished ahead of Mesa and MacLean. He also finished third in GTO.

Mesa won the GTO, GTU and Middleweight Superbike races and finished second to Ferrer in the Middleweight Grand Prix class. The winningest racers of the day were in the Amateur ranks. Ryan Cabrera and Boelo Lussenburg, Jr. each finished the day with five victories. Cabrera dominated the middleweight classes on his West Side Performance Suzuki GSX-R600, winning GTU, Middleweight Supersport, and Middleweight Superbike, as well as the GTO and Heavyweight Supersport classes. Lussenburg was out front in all of his lightweight races, winning GT Lights, Lightweight Grand Prix, Supertwins, Lightweight Superbike, and Thunderbike on his Moto Corse Performance Ducati Paul Smart 1000.

Championship Cup Series Florida region races are next scheduled for August 30th-31st, with the Southeast region at Roebling Road Raceway. For additional information on future events and to see race lap times and final results, please visitwww.ccsracing.us.
