Dwyer Wins Second Shootout of the Season CCS Florida – Homestead-Miami Speedway June 23, 2013 Sean Dwyer won the hotly-contested Unlimited Grand Prix race during the Championship Cup Series (CCS) Florida Region event presented by Michelin Tire June 23 at Homestead-Miami Spedway.

Bruno Silva nailed the holeshot with his Kawasaki ZX-10R, with Jeff Lampe, Dwyer, and Felipe MacLean in hot pursuit. By lap two, Lampe was out front on his Kawasaki ZX-10R with Dwyer in second and Silva in third, but halfway through the second lap, Lampe crashed out of the race in Turn Eight, allowing Rodolfo Ramirez to pass and take over the lead with his Kawasaki ZX-10R. Dwyer was out front on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 at the white flag lap in an all-out battle for the lead with position swapping throughout the course. When the checkered flag came out, it was Dwyer out front to take his second Shootout victory of the season, followed by Silva in second, and Ramirez in third. When asked about the race start, Ramirez stated, “Well, my starts, they suck. I can not get a good start. [Later] I felt good. There’s a lot of pressure. Everybody’s making little mistakes, so every little hole you see, somebody’s putting their bike somewhere. Lampe crashed and I kind of took over the lead for a little bit, but I guess I couldn’t hold it until the end. I think he [Dwyer] got me twice coming down in [Turn] Ten. He was more aggressive than I was. Every time I ride I feel more comfortable. It’s a little bit different from my SV. It takes a little bit to get used to it.” Silva stated, “I tried to step it up. Every time I talk to Leon, the Pirelli guy, on how to make it better and better, faster and faster. And, it works. The Pirelli tires are amazing. I’m really happy.

“I got a good start. In Turn Eight, I kind of lost a little bit at the brake marks and I went a little wide. So, I think Ramirez came. It’s just amazing that those guys went faster! We keep pushing the level.”

Silva dedicated his second place finish to his parents who were celebrating their 29th wedding anniversary that day. On the podium, Dwyer commented, “We were swapping the lead there like a hot potato. That was a lot of fun! First time really racing with Rodolfo a whole lot. He was tough. Having to deal with somebody new. And to know that Bruno and Jeff were there, also; they’re always going to be fast. It was a tough game. Jeff made a mistake there and fell down. It was pretty cool, he looked up and was sliding and I was kind of wide, and, he went underneath me. He lost his front. And, as he was sliding, he looked over and asked me to not run him over. So, I barely missed him. Let him go by. And, one of the Kawis got by me and we just put our heads down. I was going to fight in that race. I was ready to fight every corner. We’ve been pushing hard.

“I’ve been working on some health issues the past few weeks. I’ve got to thank my wife. She took care of me. I didn’t know if I was going to be able to race two days ago. We brought a whole new set up and backwards yesterday. But that didn’t work so we just put our old settings on there. We asked Dunlop to bring us a little something different, and they did, and man, that thing worked awesome! We’ve overcome some stuff and you’re going to see the best version of me pretty soon. I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a road race bike totally healthy.” Silva won the GTO, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Superbike races. And, Ramirez swept his lightweight classes, winning GT Lights, Ultralight Superbike, Lightweight Grand Prix, and Lightweight Superbike. He also finished third in GTO, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Superbike. And, Dwyer finished second in Unlimited Superbike. Greg Melka was the winningest expert of the weekend again with six first place finishes on his Yamaha YZF-R6. He won the GTU, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, Heavyweight Superbike, and Middleweight Grand Prix classes, finishing his day undefeated. RESULTS
