MICHELIN/WERA WINNERS FROM NOLA
On September 14th and 15th the riders of the Michelin/WERA National Challenge and the Pirelli/WERA Sportsman Series were at NOLA Motorsports Park outside of New Orleans, Louisiana. Saturday became a true challenge when Mother Nature blew in right before the 750/B Superbike race was due to take the track. A Monsoon type deluge hit the property and stayed over the track for over one hour totally overwhelming the track and paddock and causing flooding which prevented the final 9 races scheduled for Saturday to run. WERA Officials got together and made a plan to run one short round of practice Sunday am and then roll into the 9 remaining Sprints from Saturday – making them all 4 laps. A 45 minute lunch break was scheduled and then we would roll into the Sunday schedule and have all races run 6 laps. Thanks to the hard work from all the Officials, the NOLA Staff and most of all the riders the plan worked wonderfully and the final checker flag fell at 4:58pm on Sunday!
With too many results to list them all here are the multiple and National Class winners: Sean Dwyer on his Suzuki 1000 took the win in Open Superstock both days Dwyer also won Formula 1 and WERA Superbike on Saturday – Dwyer finished 2nd to Reese Wacker on his Suzuki 1000 on Sunday. Wacker finished second to Dwyer in Open Superstock both days.
Clint Austin won the A Open Superstock Saturday on his Suzuki 600 and Robert Woodworth took that win on Sunday along with wins in 600 Superstock both days; 750 Superbike and 750 Superstock Sunday, 600 Superbike Sunday; the wins on Saturday went to Michael V. Ferro on his Yamaha 600. Verro also won Saturday’s Formula 1, 600 and 750 Superbike Races. James Eberhart took Saturday’s win in the Heavyweight Superbike Class on his Ducati 1098 and Joe Spalding took the top honor on Sunday on his Ducati 1199. Bryon Dumas took the Novice win both days on his Ducati 1098.
Jimmy Merck and Tucker Lancaster battled all weekend – the wins on Saturday and Sunday in the 600 Superstock went to Lancaster but Merck won both days in the 600 Superbike, 750 Superstock and 750 Superbike on Saturday. Lancaster took that 750 Superbike and 750 Superstock wins on Sunday. These two riders give a great show every time they take to the track.
Formula 2 on Saturday and Sunday then Lightweight Twins Superstock on Sunday belonged to Ray Hofman on his Suzuki 650 Jody Barry took the Lightweight Twins Superstock win Saturday. Christian Capote was the Novice winner both days in Formula 2 and in Lightweight Twins Superstock on his SV 650. The Kenny Anderson Formula 3 win went to Palmer Kling on his Moriwaki 250 both Saturday and Sunday. For complete results and points standings visit www.wera.com.
