Miguel Duhamel Shoots Sixth Daytona 200 By Honda DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Feb. 27, 2006) — In the 65th Daytona 200 By Honda on Saturday, March 11, Canadian Miguel Duhamel will look to continue to rewrite the motorcycle history books of the historic motorcycle race. In last year’s Daytona 200 By Honda, Duhamel, aboard the factory No. 17 Honda, put on a dominating show on his way to a fifth Daytona 200 By Honda triumph, tying him with motorcycle legend Scott Russell atop the all-time Daytona 200 wins list. Duhamel, who leads all motorcycle riders at DIS with 12 victories, will look to snap the tie with Russell in the 2006 edition of the prestigious motorcycle race. “That’s a far away challenge but as far as I’m concerned, hopefully I’ll stay healthy and keep going,” Duhamel said. “I like to race here another six or seven times and see where that leads us. “It’s a big race for anybody that’s on the planet. As far as racing, the Daytona 200 is the Daytona 200. It’s one of the biggest premier events in the world, period.” Also on Saturday, March 11 will be the opening round of the AMA Superbike Championship featuring world-class riders such as Mat Mladin, Aaron Yates, Ben Spies, Duhamel, Jake Zemke, Neil Hodgson, Ben Bostrom, Tommy Hayden and Roger Lee Hayden. Motorcycle racing at Daytona International Speedway will kick off on March 3-5 with American SportBike Racing Association/Championship Cup Series competition. On Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7, DIS will transform into a time machine with the AHRMA Classic Days Vintage Road Racing. AMA Pro Racing kicks off activities on Wednesday, March 8 with practice and qualifying sessions at the Speedway and the AMA GNC Singles Championship at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. Practice, Daytona 200 By Honda qualifying and the Supersport and Superstock races are slated for Thursday, March 9 at the Speedway along with the AMA GNC Singles Championship at Municipal Stadium. The Speedway will turn on the lights on Friday night, March 10 with the Daytona Supercross By Honda. The world’s top riders such as two-time defending Daytona Supercross champion Chad Reed, four-time Daytona Supercross champion Ricky Carmichael and James “Bubba” Stewart take on the toughest and most challenging Supercross course in America. There will be plenty of action off the track at DIS with free demo rides and displays and Kickstand City, which has overnight parking. Tickets for motorcycle races at Daytona International Speedway are available online at www.racetickets.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
