If AMA qualifying sessions get rained out at Daytona International Speedway (DIS), grids will be formed starting with 2004 point standings, the order of pre-entry then the order of post-entry, according to supplementary regulations for the event. As of 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time Wednesday, during the time scheduled for the Superstock class’ only qualifying session, it was raining steadily at DIS. Supersport qualifying is scheduled to take place immediately following Superstock qualifying. AMA Pro Racing will not declare Wednesday completely rained out until officials have had a chance to study the weather forecast and meet with DIS officials, according to Superbike Series Manager Ron Barrick. That declaration could come around 3:30 p.m. local time. Barrick has also not made a decision if he will declare Superstock and Supersport qualifying “rained out” or if he will try to re-schedule them for Thursday, the day those races are scheduled to take place. “I’m not prepared to make that determination,” Barrick told Roadracingworld.com. Faced with the possibility of starting the Superstock race at Daytona from the back of the grid, Yoshimura Suzuki’s Aaron Yates said, “If that’s what’s gonna happen, it’s not gonna be too neat. I don’t know if it’s set in stone or not, but hopefully it won’t go like that. Maybe they’ll work us in a little session tomorrow. “It seems like they should go off practice times from this morning because last year’s points don’t have nothing to do with this year, really.” Several other racers would be affected by an official “rain out” of Superstock and Supersport qualifying, including Team M4 EMGO Suzuki’s Geoff May, who was third-fastest in Wednesday morning Superstock practice but was 17th in 2004 Superstock points and ninth-fastest in Supersport practice but did not race in that class at all in 2004. 2004 AMA Superstock Points: 1.
