Earlier today it was announced that the Daytona 200, the 74th running of the Daytona 200, would not be sanctioned by MotoAmerica, the entity holding the rights to promote AMA and FIM professional motorcycle road racing in America. But that announcement does not mean the Daytona 200 will not continue. In fact, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III told Roadracingworld.com today that he is optimistic that the Daytona 200 will run with a new partner on March 14, 2015.

“It’s a very historic event. It’s important to us,” Chitwood said of the Daytona 200. “We are so invested in motorcycles when you think about what we do in Daytona with Bike Week, with Supercross, the flat track. So for us, we want to continue to be in that world, so I’m sure we’ll be talking to some partners that we have out there. I feel optimistic that there will be an opportunity.

“It is late in the game, so it is a little bit challenging to be in October and talking about March, but here in Daytona we have a lot of good stuff going on. I think we’ll have some partners who will want to be there and figure it out with us. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks we’ll get going with that. It’s just the way the business is with volatility and change. So we’ll have to deal with it, but it’s no different than in the other forms of motorsport that we deal with. It’s part of the daily occurrence in motorsports.”
