Zhuhai 6 Hour – Major International Race

Online Information for First World Championship Race in China

The Zhuhai 6 Hour round of the World Endurance Championship will take place on the 2nd of May 2004 and is already looking set to become a significant fixture in the international motorcycle racing calendar. The Chinese National and Zhuhai Regional Governments (the Zhuhai circuit is in the Peoples’ Republic of China, close to Hong Kong and Macau) have thrown their full support behind the event, and now a Chinese language website promoting both the event and the World Endurance Championship has been launched.

www.chinamoto.cc provides full information about both the race and the World Championship as well as regular news bulletins from the world of endurance racing. The site also provides details for teams wishing to enter the race, for visitors travelling to the circuit, and a wealth of background information covering the Zhuhai region, motorcycling and motorsport in China.

Significantly, the site reflects the amount of interest that the arrival of international
motorcycling racing in China has created. The World Endurance Championship round at Zhuhai will be the first FIM sanctioned competition to be held in mainland China, a nation which already has a huge domestic motorcycle market.

Chinese motorcycle manufacturer Zongshen won the World Endurance Championship in 2002, took second place in the 2003 Championships and will be running a permanent team in the 2004 series alongside their two bike World Superbike squad. For their home race at Zhuhai, Zongshen are expected to run at least two further teams. The full field of “permanent” endurance teams will be making the trip to China in the spring, with the rest of the 65 bike race entry expected to be made up of “wildcard” teams from around South-
East Asia.
