From a press release:

The Fifth Annual All-Star Ride for Life is set to hit the road on Saturday, September 11th, with hundreds of riders taking part, all to benefit the kids at Duke Children’s Hospital. The charity ride, begun in July of 2000 by CCS racer and Registered Nurse Stan Simmerson, has seen it’s ranks increase each year, and this year’s roster is bigger and better than ever! This year’s event will include some of the fastest riders in the world, all taking a ride to raise money for the kids.

This year’s honorary Grand Marshals will include:

Five-time Daytona 200 Winner and former World Superbike Champion Scott Russell

Current AMA 600 Supersport Champion Jamie Hacking

Former multi-time AMA Champion and MotoGP rider Kurtis Roberts

Former AMA Champion Jamie James

AMA Horizon Winner Brian Stokes

Multi-time WERA Champion and AMA Superbike Privateer Scott Carpenter

The ride will begin and end at Scooter’s Grill and Bar in Raleigh NC, with stops at some of the area’s best bike shops, restaurants and attractions, and then on to the Children’s Hospital under honorary police escort, where the riders will meet some of the kids that benefit from everyone’s generosity. Then it’s back to Scooters for a big after-party and bike show!

“I couldn’t be happier to have people of the caliber that we have this year! To have so many champions agree to share their time with us, well, it’s just overwhelming!” said event organizer Stan Simmerson, who works as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the hospital. “To have Scott, Kurtis, Jamie Hacking
and Jamie James, and so many others help out these kids, it just speaks volumes about their character and compassion. If you’ve ever wanted to meet these champions and hang out, talk with them and even ride with them, now’s your
chance, all for a great cause!”

There will be tons of prizes given away at the conclusion of the ride, including free tires, helmets, and even a free track day/school courtesy of Cornerspeed.net. Plus several lucky winners will receive a pair of three-day passes to the upcoming AMA Superbike races at VIR. There is also an auction to be held on ebay in conjunction with the ride, where road racing fans can get some of the most desirable racer memorabilia available anywhere! Up for auction will be Jamie Hacking’s leathers, Kurtis Robert’s leathers, Jake Zemke’s leathers, and Giovanni Bussei’s Ducati Austin leathers from last season. Plus an Arai Helmet that’s been signed by everyone that’s anyone in motorcycle roadracing, including Freddie Spencer, Kevin Schwantz, Mat Mladin, Nicky Hayden, and many many others. Mark your calendars and make a difference in the life of a child! Don’t expect a miracle, BE ONE! The Fifth Annual All-Star Ride for Life!
