Chris “Opie” Caylor, Tray Batey, Matt Lynn and Brandon Parrish each won a WERA National Challenge Series sprint race Sunday, the final day of the 2005 Grand National Final (GNF), at Road Atlanta.

Caylor rode his Team EMGO Taiwan Suzuki GSX-R600 AMA Formula Xtreme bike (fitted with Dunlop 16.5-inch slicks) to win in 600cc Superbike. Graves Motorsports Yamaha’s Josh Herrin, 15, had led Caylor for five laps before Caylor took the lead in turn one. Herrin, however, pushed too hard to counter-attack Caylor and ran off the track at turn 10. Caylor went on to win by 11 seconds. Herrin re-entered the track without losing a position and finished second. Mark Crozier placed third on a Yamaha YZF-R6.

In spite of riding with a broken right foot, Batey won the red-flag-interrupted Heavyweight Twins sprint going away on his Pirelli-shod Vesrah Suzuki SV1000. Ghetto Customs’ Cale Swiger was second, ahead of Touring Sport’s Frank Shockley, when the race was stopped short due to a novice racer crashing at high speed in turn 12. The crashed rider was reported as uninjured.

Crosley’s Brandon Parrish took his first National Expert race win in eight-lap, back-and-forth 750cc Superbike battle with 5150 Racing’s Justin Marm. Mike deBrabant finished third. All three rode Suzuki GSX-R750s.

Team Embry’s Matt Lynn used 17-inch Pirelli slicks on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to win the Formula One race by seven seconds. Brian Stokes finished second on his Team Stargel Suzuki GSX-R1000 but said he didn’t have the perfect set-up for his 16.5-inch Michelin slicks. After crashing out of the Suzuki GSX-R1000 Cup Final moments earlier, Freewheeling’s Byron Barbour finished third on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 equipped with 16.5-inch Michelin slicks.
