Constructed in 1996 and situated near the city of Chemnitz in Saxony, the Sachsenring Circuit will host the ninth round of the Moto2 Championship.
With ten left corners and three right corners, the German track is one of the slower circuits on the MotoGP calendar, challenging the riders with tight turns and elevation changes.
#5 Johann Zarco: “Sachsenring is not one of my strongest tracks in Moto2. The best race I have had there was when I was on a 125cc and I almost won. However now I have another team and we work well and understand many things, so it can be a good weekend.
“If the weather is not consistent like in Assen it could be difficult again but we will have to see. We will keep working hard and take what we can.
“I know the track well now so I hope that we continue to progress and we can run at the top throughout the weekend.”
#2 Josh Herrin: “I am very excited to ride at Sachsenring mainly because of the elevation changes and because I enjoy short circuits.
“When I was younger my parents took me to a lot of different tracks and I think this has really helped me now as I’m pretty quick at adapting to them and I really enjoy the challenge of learning the different layouts.
“As I have never been to most of the places on the GP calendar I try to study the track as much as I can before we show up for the race. I watch all of the Moto2 footage from the previous year and I play the MotoGP 14 game which helps a lot.
“I will be doing a lot of cycling in Belgium before we head to Germany as I want to be as physically and mentally prepared as I can be. At Sachsenring I will be pushing hard to get a good qualifying result so that I can achieve my goals and fight for the points come race day.”
Johan Stigefelt – Team Manager: “Sachsenring will mark the half-way point of the season and it will be important for us to continue as we have done in the last two races with Johann.
“The track is short but intense and pretty hard physically. As its mainly left hand side corners it’s important that we find a good setting with the bike which will allow us to run well in those sectors with the grip we need. We will also have some new parts to test from Suter which will be interesting and in the direction that we have requested.
“For Josh he needs now to make a step forward. Unfortunately he still doesn’t have any points and this is not what we had in mind when we started this year. The last two races have seen an improvement from him but we actually should have scored points in Assen when we had the opportunity in the wet condition. I hope that at Sachsenring he will be able to show his true potential.”
