The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association 2014 Season Starts at MSR Houston Next Weekend

Next weekend, February 14 – 16, 2014, the Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) kicks off its 2014 season at MSR Houston in Angleton, Texas. The three-day event marks the first event of the 2014 race season, and brings new classes, new purses and new excitement.

The weekend’s schedule gets rolling on Friday with an all day CMRA-sanctioned racer practice and CMRA license school.

Saturday’s schedule includes a full slate of sprint races for smaller bikes, including our one-of-a-kind, Junior Motard class for racers 8-12 years old. New classes for 2014 include the Grom Challenge, a class specifically for the 125cc Honda Grom and run with rules to keep the bikes close to stock, will debut on Saturday. The 500 Supersport class designed for the Honda CBR500R and 300 Supersport class (Kawasaki EX300) will also grid up for the first time at MSR Houston. Round One of the CMRA Endurance Series follows the sprint races with a 2-Hour Lightweight Endurance and a 4-Hour CMRA Challenge Endurance. Saturday’s racing concludes with a trophy presentation and free trackside racer/spectator meet and greet party.

Sunday’s schedule is jam-packed with a full day’s worth of exciting and competitive Big Bike sprint races. The CMRA is thrilled to announce the return of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation / P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert class. The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and P1 Racing have teamed up to help promote Breast Cancer awareness by offering an $11,000 cash purse to be paid out to the top Formula 1 Expert finishers over the course of the 2014 season. The CMRA kicks in another $400 per weekend when the grid reaches 20 or more racers. A portion of each entry fee is donated to Breast Cancer Research.

Sunday also brings a group bike ride to the track for a chili cook-off and silent auction to benefit Capt. Bill Dowling, a Houston fire captain seriously injured in a building fire and collapse. For more information and how to participate, go to: www.dowlingride.com.

Gates open each day at 6:00 a.m. and we race rain or shine! Weekend entry into the event is only $20 on Thursday or Friday, Saturday is $15, and just $10 on Sunday. Tickets are good for the entire weekend. Ride your street bike to the event and you’ll pay just $5 for entry on both Saturday and Sunday! Kids 12 and under are free. A spectator lap of the track will be conducted during the lunch break on Sunday, schedule and weather permitting. Bring a cooler or visit the on-site concession at the base of the Control Tower.
