The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) held its Annual Awards Banquet this past Saturday, December 10, 2016, at River Ranch Stockyards in Fort Worth, Texas. With over 300 people in attendance, the evening was full of fun and surprises. Awards and congratulations were presented to all of our 2016 Sprint and Endurance Champions, Series and Class Sponsors as well as other special annual individual awards.

The evening began by introducing the 2017 Board of Directors: Shandra Crawford, Danny Dominguez, Allen Dye, Lindsey Leard, John Orchard, Bill Syfan, and Harry Tomlinson. The 2017 Club Officers were also announced: John Orchard – President, Shandra Crawford – Vice President, Norm McDonald – Treasurer, Nancy Selleck – Secretary.

2017 #1 Plate: Brandon Cleland rode his RES-prepped, Yamaha YZF-R6 to the CMRA Overall Sprint Championship, bringing home the Number One Plate for 2017. Cleland also clinched five individual Expert Sprint Class Championships in Formula 1, A Superbike, C Superbike, C Superstock and Solo 30 HW. Daniel Adams, CMRA 2016 #1 Plate holder, was on hand to present the #1 plate award.

The Rookie Expert Award went to Robert Duncan for earning the most overall points as a first-year Expert.

The Top Novice Award went to Umayr Kaleem for earning the most overall Novice points and graduating to Expert for 2017.

The Overall Championship Endurance #1 Plate was presented to the LocoMotion team of Brandon Altmeyer, Alonzo Contreras, Ryan Max Johnson, Darrell (DJ) Ricks, and Mark Windham. LocoMotion rode their Yamaha YZF-R6 to the C Superbike Endurance Class Championship as well. The team dedicated their emotional win to the Team Owner, Rich Bevis, who passed away in September after losing his battle with cancer.

The Overall Lightweight Endurance #1 Plate was awarded for the 2nd year to the Pretty Hate Machine team of Jesse Davis, Andy Galindo, Will Gruy, Alan Phillips, and David Tiede. Pretty Hate Machine also won the 500 Classic LW Endurance Class Championship aboard their Honda RVF 400.

The evening included other special awards including the Claire McMahan Extra Mile Award, which is awarded each year to someone who has gone above and beyond with their support of the CMRA. Alan Etheredge was the 2016 recipient of this very special award. Etheredge, who joined the CMRA race day staff in 2003, has volunteered many long hours during the race season and in the off season. Working CMRA At-Track Registration, preparing the annual rulebook, laying out all CMRA Registration forms, and working with the Contingency Manager to process contingency are just a few of the things that he does to go above and beyond to ensure the quality of the CMRA race experience for everyone.

The Racers Race Award, a new award for 2016, was inspired by all of the racers who overcome adversity and keep going. The first year of the award was presented jointly to Kasey Lewis and Harry Tomlinson for their tireless efforts as crew chiefs for both their teams and their friends, and for being a source of help for numerous people in the paddock.

The Century Trucks and Vans Lightweight Championship Cup Awards were also new for this year and went to the top five competitors who had the most cumulative points in the Lightweight Expert Classes. The winners were: 1st – Daniel Adams ($1000), 2nd – Danny Dominguez ($750), 3rd – Shawn Adams ($500), 4th – Jim Whitten ($150), 5th – Andy Gilliland ($100).
