Round 4 – Snetterton

Round four of the Dickies Supersport Championship took place at the Snetterton Race Circuit and to be an eventful one yet again for the Everquip Racing team. Following a very positive test at Knockhill at the beginning of the week, the team headed to the Norfolk circuit in high spirits.

Free practice one proved positive with James Rispoli P5 and Bjorn Estment P7. Free practice two also proved positive improving on times from the first session and ended with 1.52.895 for James and 1.53.987 for Bjorn. Both riders improving their times from session one by 0.7 seconds.

Following the free practice few changes were made which resulted in a difficult qualifying session with James at P6 and Bjorn at P15. However, the team were very confident following some further changes for the sprint race.

Race One – Sprint Race – James worked his way through the grid running 2nd for majority of the race and with Bjorn running P11 when Ben Currie overtook James to put him in P3. This was the case until the last lap when James’s engine blew causing him to fall along with several other bikes including Bjorn. The team worked well into the night repairing both bikes. The following morning with all bikes repaired Bjorn and James headed out for the 10 minute warm up session to check the running of the bikes. All seemed good with Bjorn P8 and James P5.

Race 2 – Feature Race – With good lap times posted in the Sprint Race, James Rispoli was to start the feature race at P3 with Bjorn Estment at P9. A solid performance was put in by both riders with James finishing P3 and Bjorn P11. Championship points for both riders after a very difficult weekend.

James Rispoli “The weekend was filled with some lows and some highs. I had good start to the weekend running in the Top 4 at every session. I qualified 6th which wasn’t the best. In the race we made a step forward with Andy amending the settings on the bike we were able to keep to within 2.5 seconds of Currie who was in the lead. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical failure and crashed out on the final lap. Race 2 had a lot of issues following the engine change, the bike didn’t feel right and I had to ride out of my skin to close the gap to Jones. I got to second when Twyman came by me on the last corner, I tried to get by him but I couldn’t do much in the braking zones as too much chatter. I consolidated another podium which was good for the team.”

Bjorn Estment “The weekend started off really well for me and looked like we may be able to turn our fortune and continue the fight back to positions we belong at and rightfully should be fighting for. However, this was not to be and even though I could post a half competitive lap time in race 1 for a respectable grid position in the feature race, the rest was not to be as I struggled from lights out to the flag going backwards all race long. The next round is Knockhill and I look forward to taking big steps forward and hopefully turning my season around way up north in Scotland.
