Corkscrew-Conquering Cameron Beaubier Earns AMA Pro SuperBike Pole At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Just Ahead Of Teammate Josh Hayes

Cypress, CA – July 12, 2014 – For the Yamaha U.S. road racers, day two of the FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round, was all about qualifying for tomorrow’s races, and the “Fast Four” did their jobs well.

Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Hayes & Beaubier

The season-long, razor-close competition between three-time AMA Pro SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes and his SuperBike rookie teammate Cameron Beaubier continued in both of Saturday’s SuperBike qualifying sessions, and Cameron ultimately bested Josh, albeit by a narrow margin, to earn the pole. Cameron’s 1:24.019 lap time eclipsed Josh’s fast lap from last year to set the fastest lap ever on a Yamaha R1 in AMA Pro SuperBike competition at Mazda Raceway.

Josh will also start on the front row for tomorrow’s SuperBike race, right alongside Cameron, with their #2 and #4 Yamaha YZF-R1 SuperBikes providing double vision for the fans in attendance.

“I’m really comfortable here at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,” Cameron said. “It’s a home track for me, so a lot of my family and friends are in attendance. This is my first weekend here on the SuperBike, and my crew is doing awesome work to get me comfortable on it. I’m feeling great for the race tomorrow.”

Sunday’s SuperBike race is scheduled for 4:20 PM PST.

Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Gerloff & Beach

JD Beach looked like a man on a mission when he arrived at the track this morning, and it showed in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike qualifying as the rider of the #6 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6 topped the charts for a good part of the session before settling in for a third-position start on the front row for tomorrow’s race. Meanwhile, his teammate Garrett Gerloff will start from the third row, with hopes of getting a good start in tomorrow’s race.

“We made a couple of changes to my R6,” JD commented. “It made a difference, and I was able to run up front. We’ve got a fast bunch of riders in this class, especially among those on R6’s, so I’m happy to be on the front row. I’ll put my flat-track experience to the test tomorrow and try to get the holeshot, as well as the win. I’m looking forward to it.”

Sunday’s DSB race will start at 1:25 PM PST.

Visit The Yamaha Display Area At The Marketplace And Demo A 2015 FZ-07

The Yamaha Display Area At The Marketplace, which is located in the track infield between turns 5 and 6 at the Raceway, will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM. You’ll be able to take a demo ride aboard the all-new 2015 Yamaha FZ-07 sportbike. Demo rides will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM. You’ll need a valid motorcycle license (permits are not allowed), a DOT-approved helmet, long pants, enclosed shoes, a shirt, and eye protection to take your ride.

Meet The Yamaha U.S. Road Racers

All your favorite Yamaha U.S. riders will be available for autographs during Sunday’s autograph session from 12:00 to 12:45 PM at the Team Transporters in the infield paddock. Yamaha riders signing posters include Josh and Cameron from Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha; Garrett and JD from Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha; Jake Gagne and Tomas Puerta from RoadRace Factory/Yamaha; Jake Lewis, Tucker Lancaster, Andre Ochs, Erick Sanchez, and Bernat Martinez from MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha; along with Dane Westby from Yamalube/Westby Racing.
