By Beth Dolgner The WERA Michelin National Challenge Series concluded WERA’s Cycle Jam at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday, and once again it was Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey who came away with the most wins. Meanwhile, two up-and-coming racers earned their first Superstock wins. Batey had the lead in 750cc Superstock, riding his Suzuki GSX-R750, until a bike further back in the pack dropped oil from the lower part of the Roller Coaster to turn 17. In addition to the leaking bike, a number of other motorcycles went down in the oil, and a lengthy red flag followed. On the re-start, Batey again took the lead and went on to win. Behind him, John Jacobi held off David Weber for second. Batey led all of Heavyweight Twins Superstock on the Vesrah Suzuki SV1000 to win over Cale Swiger and Russell Masecar, who were also riding SV1000s. Formula One completed Batey’s trio of wins, as he held off Ben Thompson to win again on his Suzuki GSX-R750. In Open Superstock, an early five-way battle between Mark Junge, Jacobi, Thompson, Ryan Gordon and Weber ended on lap four when contact caused Junge to crash and Gordon to run off. Thompson moved into the lead and held off Jacobi and Weber to win his first Superstock race on the Racersupply.com Suzuki GSX-R1000. Thompson later won 750cc Superbike on a Suzuki GSX-R750, leading all eight laps. He is the only winner in the class so far this season. Behind him, the rest of the top five spread out as they hit lapped traffic, with Tim Rinaldi taking second on a Yamaha YZF-R6. The 600cc Superstock race featured Weber, Jacobi and Junge at the front. For the last three laps, Weber and Jacobi traded the lead. At the checkered flag, Weber was out front on his XT Racing Suzuki GSX-R600, taking his first 600cc Superstock win. Dave Yaakov won Lightweight Twins Superstock on his Suzuki SV650, winning by more than eight seconds over Ross Ryals and Russell Masecar. In 600cc Superbike, Keith Marshall lost the lead on lap three to Giovanni Rojas. The two Suzuki GSX-R600 riders stayed close for the remainder of the race, but Rojas kept a small lead and took the win. Brian Kcraget dominated Formula Two on his Honda RS125, winning by more than 12 seconds over Chris Parrish. Parrish had a close battle with Niels Grove, and he took the runner-up spot by just two-tenths of a second.
