Carolina Motorsports Park,

Kershaw, South Carolina

April 9-10th, 2016

Frank Babuska, Jr. won all six of his races in the Southeast and Atlantic Championship Cup Series at

Carolina Motorsports Park including the heavily contested Unlimited Grand Prix class on both days of racing. Babuska was out front early in each and every race on his Babuska Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 in cold and windy conditions Saturday, and even colder, partly overcast conditions on Sunday. He finished ahead of Anthony Giangrasso, Vasiliy Zhulin, Jeremy Krasny, and Ivan DeBold on Saturday. In Sunday’s race, Chris Maher, Lloyd Bayley, Richard Smith, and James Shepherd rounded off the top five.

Babuska ran undefeated and unchallenged in all of his races during the weekend event. He also won the Unlimited Superbike and Unlimited Supersport classes on both days.

Seth Starnes and Dustin Young won the ASRA Team Challenge GTO class and finished first in Combined Overall, completing 56 laps in the two hour race on their Team Mavros Motorsports GSX-R1000. The race was stopped twice for red flag incidents and the clock ran out before the 69 scheduled laps could be completed.

Starnes nailed the holeshot and led the race until the first red flag was thrown after the first fifteen minutes of the race. Following the restart after the second red flag, Team Mavros Motorsports and LB Sports were the top two teams, swapping positions, with Lloyd Bayley out front for the final run to the checkered flag. Lloyd Bayley crossed the finish line first, but was disqualified because he failed to complete a pit stop under green flag conditions.

“We wanted to use a one pit stop strategy,” said Starnes. “That was negated when the read flag came out on lap 25. We chose to do a tire change and rider change for the restart with about 46 minutes remaining. Post the red flag, Dustin and Llyod were neck to neck, so we decided to pit whenever Llyod pitted. He chose not to make a green flag stop so we made ours with five minutes remaining. We again did a rider change and quick splash of fuel. Lloyd finished ahead of us on track by about a half a lap but failed to make a green flag stop, handing first place back to us at the end of the race.”

Joel Lenk and Matt Brown won the GTU class and finished second overall on their Jinba Attai Motorsport Yamaha YZF-R6, completing 55 laps. Team TPM finished third overall on their Triumph 675R, piloted by Jimmy Fontinopoulos, Mark Dickerson, and Ricky O’Hare. Team LWT Racer 171’s Todd Alberico and Ben Loyle won the GT Lights class on their Suzuki SV650, after completing 53 laps and finishing sixth overall.

Team Mavros Motorsports plans to contest the entire ASRA Team Challenge series this season and hopes to continue to lead in their class and overall points. Starnes stated, “Charlie, Dustin, and myself are all very excited to compete in the GTO class this season and look forward to competing for the Overall TC championship in 2016.”

Greg Melka was the winningest racer of the event with a total of nine first place finishes. He won the Middleweight Superbike, Middleweight Grand Prix, and Heavyweight Superbike classes on both days. Saturday, he also won the GT Lights and Heavyweight Superbike races, and on Sunday he won Middleweight Supersport.

Bart DeFrancesco won a grand total of six races with double wins in the Expert Thunderbike, Lightweight Superbike, and Lightweight Grand Prix classes. Amateur William Gawler also took home six victories, mirroring Babuska with double wins in the Amateur Unlimited Superbike, Unlimited Supersport, and Unlimited Grand Prix classes.

Adrain Jasso won both the USGPRU 250 GP and Moto 3 classes, finishing ahead of young guns Brandon Paasch and Jackson Blackmon in both events.

CCS Atlantic and MidAtlantic regions will compete next at

New Jersey Motorsports Park April 16-17th. The weekend will also include ASRA and USGPRU sprint races. The next ASRA Team Challenge event is scheduled for May 21-22d at Blackhawk Farms Raceway.
