Michelin 2005 Racing An Exceptional Track Record (Paris – November 4, 2005) In 2005, Michelin made a clean sweep of the three most prestigious motorsports championships, securing world titles with its partners in Formula One, the World Rally Championship and the MotoGP World Championship. Michelin scored win-doubles with Fernando Alonso and Renault in F1 and with Sébastien Loeb and Citroën in WRC, clinching both the manufacturers’ and drivers’ titles. On top of that, Valentino Rossi and Yamaha claimed the premier-class MotoGP titles. In addition to these achievements, the Michelin Group contributed to the crowning finish of Bruno Saby (Volkswagen) in the Rally Raid World Cup, as well as taking overall victory in the 2005 Dakar Rally. It also played an active role in Audi’s success at the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in June. Backed by a strong presence in two-wheel racing””especially off road””Michelin has borne riders to world titles in the Motocross (MX2 category), Indoor Trial and Outdoor Trial Championships. It also supported Julien Absalon’s victory in the Mountain Bike world championships. Each of these victories underscores a successful core strategy built on innovation. Says Edouard Michelin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won so many prestigious titles in 2005, but we’re also delighted to have demonstrated throughout the season, regardless of the event, that Michelin and BFGoodrich tyres were instrumental in boosting user performance by giving them a greater chance of winning. The competitive advantage of Michelin technology isn’t restricted to sports competition but featured across our entire range of tyres. Racing is a fantastic testing and learning ground that delivers long-term benefits to all our customers.”
