DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2017) – With an amazingly successful 2017 racing season behind it and the promise of more intense action, event popularity and dirt track growth for 2018, American Flat Track has bolstered its communication and event promotion efforts with key hires.

Longtime motojournalist, racer and industry insider Mitch Boehm has been named Communications Director, effective immediately, while motorsports promotion and marketing expert Ashley Freas will join AFT as Event Manager on November 27.

“We’re excited to have Mitch and Ashley on our team,” said Michael Lock, CEO of American Flat Track. “Their wide-ranging motorsports experience and communication skills are sure to help us continue our sport’s – and our organization’s – fantastic growth.”

A motorcycle enthusiast since the age of eight, Boehm spent 20 years at Motorcyclist (14 years as Editor-in-Chief), three years as an American Honda R&D expert, a year as Cycle World’s Managing Editor, and the last nine years as an industry consultant, working for several manufacturers and media outlets. He also arranged and co-wrote Malcolm Smith’s 2015 autobiography.

“Having been a racer and a fan of racing since I first saw ‘On Any Sunday’ back in the early 1970s,” said Boehm, “I’m unbelievably excited to be part of this organization. The on-track action, the riders, the teams, the sponsors, the entire scene… it’s electric, for sure, and I can’t wait to begin helping tell our sport’s stories to racing enthusiasts and a wider audience this coming season.”

Boehm, who will continue to be based in Los Angeles, will head all manner of AFT communication, including media relations, press releases, the AFT website and social media. His location in Southern California will allow him to work closely with JMPR, American Flat Track’s Woodland Hills, CA-based public relations firm, and will also strengthen AFT’s connection to West coast teams, OEMs and press, enthusiast and non-enthusiast alike.

Freas, who most recently served as the Director of Marketing and Communications for New Jersey Motorsports Park, will manage a wide range of AFT event operations, including marketing, promotion, hospitality and VIP experiences. Freas graduated from Rowan University with a degree in Public Relations.
