The Emperor Strikes Back As Josh Hayes Nips Teammate Beaubier By .001-Second To Win SuperBike Race 2 At Mid-Ohio; Gerloff Podiums In DSB Race 2

Lexington, OH – July 20, 2014 – As if AMA Pro SuperBike Race 1 weren’t exciting enough, Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha teammates Josh Hayes and Cameron Beaubier came back for Race 2 less than three hours after their late-morning battle–which was won by Cameron–and the Yamaha YZF-R1-mounted pair went toe-to-toe again with an even closer result. Josh took the lead on the last lap and narrowly hung on to win his sixth SuperBike race of the year, this time by a margin of just one one-thousandth of a second over Cam.

After his photo-finish victory, Josh said, “That was a really fun race, and the finish was unbelievable. I thought, for sure, that Cameron had got me at the line. I led most of the race with not much of a gap back to my teammate, so when Cam got past me, it took everything I had to get back in front of him on the final lap. That was a crazy last lap for me, and I’m fortunate that I was able to come away with the win.”

For Josh, it was his 11th motorcycle road racing win (in any class) at Mid-Ohio, which is a new track record. The victory retains Josh’s 40-point lead in the Championship with one event and two SuperBike races left in the 2014 season.

Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha: Gerloff & Beach

In Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 2, Garrett Gerloff improved on his fourth-place result from Race 1 to finish third, which was the Texan’s second podium of the year. JD, meanwhile, finished in eighth place in Race 2 after finishing sixth in Race 1 earlier in the day.

RoadRace Factory/Yamaha’s Jake Gagne, who finished second in Race 2, is now leading the Championship by a seven-point margin over MotoSport.com/Meen Yamaha’s Jake Lewis, who finished fourth in Race 2. Lewis was the winner of Sunday’s DSB Race 1, held earlier in the day at Mid-Ohio.
