An AMA Pro Racing delegation has been making the rounds pitching an AMA Pro Road Racing TV deal on the CBS Sports cable network to potential advertisers. The delegation seems confident that it will raise enough commercial support to make the deal happen although no contract between AMA Pro Racing and CBS Sports is currently in place. That’s the word from people who have heard the pitch, which has been directed at OEMs and other potential buyers of commercial time. According to the sources, the deal will involve live Saturday broadcasts from selected race weekends, with the balance of the shows shown same-day-tape-delayed, but in a better time slot than many of the late-night 2012 shows on SPEED TV. Chet Burks Productions is on board to handle production of the shows as well as selling commercial time, with Chet Burks himself included in the AMA Pro Racing delegation. SPEED TV will cover AMA Pro road racing at Daytona March 14-16, including the Daytona 200, but will not cover the balance of the 2013 AMA Pro season. Immediately before post time, AMA Pro Racing Director of Communications Gene Crouch could not be reached to comment specifically on the recent meetings seeking commercial support for the 2013 TV deal. On January 23rd, Crouch promised via e-mail to respond to an earlier request for information on status of the 2013 TV deal, but has not yet done so. But on November 20th, 2012, Crouch told Roadracing World, “The 2012 TV package for GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing was a one-year renewal of the previous TV deal. At face value, the 2013 TV package will not be the same as the one that we had in 2012. Nothing is off the table at this time though, and we have a few new options for 2013 that we are pleased with. We’re working very hard to finalize our plans and hope to have negotiations wrapped up within the next 30 days.” This just in: AMA Pro Racing Director of Communications Gene Crouch just called Roadracing World to provide the following statement: “AMA Pro Racing is working very closely with Chet Burks Productions and M1 PowerSports in a very thorough, focused way to consummate an enhanced TV package for 2013.”
