Pro road racer Travis Wyman goes Legends car racing

LAS VEGAS (April 10) — After his recent move to Las Vegas, Travis Wyman has shifted gears and set his sights on a new discipline in motorsports – this time on four wheels. The middle of the three Wyman brothers has been working as a professional driving instructor for Dream Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and most recently raced as a last minute fill-in for the Third Generation Racing team in the USLCI Legends series event last weekend.

Travis took the wheel and gridded in the back of the Semi-Pro class field, winning his first main event from the back without ever turning a prior lap in the car for practice or qualifying.

“It was a blast,” Travis said. “I had been talking to the team about competing in a future race, and I was just sitting in the pits relaxing when they told me to suit up and jump in. I had no practice, and actually stalled the car a few times in the pits minutes before the race trying to get used to the clutch. I just had an awesome time doing it, and to have won my class the first time out was a little overwhelming. I’m definitely looking forward to racing it again this weekend, and can’t thank the entire Third Generation Racing team for this amazing opportunity!”

Wyman missed the opening AMA Pro Road Racing round at Daytona International Speedway in March while brothers Kyle and Cody racked up impressive results in three different categories. Although he misses motorcycle racing, Travis admits that new opportunities on four wheels have more than satisfied his racing void.

“Moving to Las Vegas and sitting out the 2014 road racing season was not something I had intended,” Wyman said. “But I do not regret it for one second. It’s almost surreal – the jobs and relationships that I have already developed out here are incredible. Working with and driving half million dollar super-cars and getting paid to do it is something I couldn’t even dream of, and now I’m racing cars, too. I’m waiting for someone to pinch me. I have learned so much more than I had ever thought possible working as a driving instructor at Dream Racing. Great opportunities keep presenting themselves and I feel as though it’s just the next chapter of my life.”

After his stunning success in his first race, Wyman is expected to see duty in a Third Generation Racing entry once again. With additional support from MotoOption, he will compete this weekend in the big three-day Bullring Legends race event just outside of Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
