Rome, Georgia – METZELER continues its successful run in North America this year, achieving their first ever victory in the 2014 AMA Supermoto Championship with the new Racetec SM tires. At the final round held over the weekend of September 12th in downtown Sturgis, CT Racing’s Gage McAllister earned second place to claim the overall championship on his Metzeler SM tires.

Gage McAllister has dominated the 2014 AMA Supermoto racing season, consistently achieving high performances and podium finishes, which has seen him secure the 2014 AMA Supermoto Open Pro Championship.

“I’m pumped to clinch the championship one round early and before going overseas to race,” said McAllister.

Gage McAllister has achieved success this season using the following METZELER Racetec SM tire compound choices and sizes:

125/80R420 K1 front

165/65R17 K0 rear

“METZELER began importing these tires into the US in two different front compounds and sizes; and rears in three compounds choices early this year,” explains Jeff Johnston, METZELER’s North American Product Manager.

“We identified that Supermoto racing was starting to see more interest from racers so we felt this would be the perfect year to import these tires for the road racing distributors to sell, and the result proves that the tires are up to the task. Congratulations to Gage and CT Racing for the great results!” added Johnston.

About RACETEC™ SM:

RACETEC™ SM is a tire for Supermoto adopting evolved racing compounds and performing profiles for the most efficient riding on the straight or while drifting. The compounds are extremely versatile and provide excellent traction and gradual drifting while the carcass is designed to provide a predictable behavior, with excellent damping capacity. The profiles were designed for an easy supermoto riding style and to offer speed in direction changes and superior grip and predictability in drifting.

RACETEC™ SM tires are constructed with 0° steel belt superimposed to a radial structure. The steel belt reduces the degree of dynamic deformation when the tire is subjected to centrifugal forces, offering excellent stability at high speed. Thanks to a more homogeneous distribution of heat, the warm-up is faster and there is greater consistency of performance as the wear is more uniform.

RACETEC™ SM also uses the advanced technology “Metzeler Advanced Winding”, a patented winding system to optimize the spacing between the windings of the 0° steel belt. Depending on the position in the cross section, the steel windings are placed with different spacings in order to achieve greater elasticity and ability to self-damping on the straight, together with a greater rigidity in corners during the fast entry as well as responsiveness and control in limited conditions of grip.
