AMA Pro Road Racing activities are currently on hold at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course due to standing water on the track from overnight and early morning rain showers, according to AMA Pro Racing Media Manager Patrick Buganski.

The Supersport class was due to go out at 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. for its first of two qualifying sessions and the GoPro Daytona SportBike class was due to go out at 8:40-9:15 a.m. for its first of two qualifying session, but neither of those sessions took place.

Instead, a rider’s meeting was called on pit lane. During that meeting, AMA Pro Racing’s Road Racing Director David McGrath proposed that at 9:25 – 10:10 a.m. the more experienced riders of the Superbike class go out as scheduled for an evaluation period instead of a qualifying session (the first of three scheduled Saturday). The times will not count towards qualifying, it was determined at the meeting.

McGrath said after the session he would talk to all of the riders who evaluated the track and adapt the day’s schedule after that.

At 9:08 a.m. local time it was still raining lightly.

The racing surface at Mid-Ohio is notoriously slippery to the point it has significantly impacted car racing activities at the track in the recent past. That treacherous racing surface combined with walls in close proximity to the track and small, grass run-off areas in some spots make riding the track in the wet a daunting task for motorcycle racers.
