Barber Motorsports Park will roar with the sounds of the Formula USA motorcycle road race series August 12 – 14, 2005. The premiere motorcycle racing organization will make its sixth stop on an eight race schedule in Leeds, AL as the competition for the championship comes to a head. With only three more opportunities to earn points toward the championship, Jeff Wood of Mansfield, MA holds a commanding lead, but his challengers still have an opportunity to wrestle the championship away from him. Wood has been a consistent front runner in 2005, standing on the podium at tracks all over the country and taking home the majority of the cash and prizes available. Team Arclight Suzuki brought Wood aboard for the 2005 season, and he has proven to be an outstanding addition to the already formidable team. Now as Arclight’s top rider, Wood is in a good position to take the Formula USA Triple Crown of the Sport Bike, Formula Sport Bike and Super Bike Championships, a feat that has never been accomplished before. This weekend will be packed with challenges for all of the Formula USA riders. As most riders will work to tame the twist and turns of Barber, Wood’s challenge will be to keep the 2004 Formula USA Sport Bike and Super Bike Champion, Robert Jensen, at bay. Jensen of Chaffee, ND missed an event earlier this year and has been forced to play catch up with Wood’s point lead all season. Championship Cup Series, the nation’s largest sportsman level motorcycle road racing organization, will share the track with Formula USA offering up the chance to see some of tomorrow’s stars looking to move up from the CCS ranks to the Formula USA Championship Series. Each Formula USA weekend brings $90,000 in cash and prizes up for grabs between four premiere classes . Combine that with the CCS cash and prizes, and the racers at Barber Motorsports Park will be competing for over $200,000 in cash and contingency prizes.
