NEMCRC Club Championships Round 1 Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th March 2006 LIFT OFF CROFT NEXT WEEKEND Round one of the popular North East Motor Cycle Racing Club championship series gets the 2006 circuit racing season underway at Croft Circuit near Darlington this forthcoming weekend with another capacity field set to battle out the various classes. Following a successful 2005 season where the club held a couple rounds at East Fortune near Edinburgh, the action will again be fast and furious as riders aim to blow off the winter cobwebs in style around the full international 2.127 mile circuit. As usual there is a healthy Scottish contingent entered and the marauders from North of the border who are expected to challenge for major honours include Rothiernorman rider Phill Stewart, who is a former Laird of Croft, who will be up against former British Superstock rider Donald MacFadyen from Inverness, both of whom will rider 1000cc Suzuki’s in the Open class races. But the locals aren’t likely to be giving any quarter to the Scotsmen and expect the likes of Eaglescliffe’s Andrew Bennett (1000cc Suzuki) to be more than a match and also in the F600 class, the likes of Chester le Street rider Dave Bell (600cc Kawasaki) and former BMW Boxer Cup racer Barry Burrell from Bishop Auckland (600cc Honda) will be battling it out up front. Other locals expecting to start the season well include Keith Taylor from Crook (490cc Triumph) and Richmond’s Adrian Hutchison (250cc MZ) in the Classics, Thirsk rider Peter Swales (400cc Yamaha) in the F400 class and Andrew Baines from Darlington on his Holiways Aprilia in the Sound of Thunder class. Ken and Peter Minns from Ushaw Moor represent the region in the sidecar class on their F2 600cc Honda and Hartburn’s James Ferguson does likewise in the 125cc class on his Honda. Practice gets underway at 9.30 on Saturday with racing immediately after and the action starts at noon on Sunday. Adult admission is just £10.00 on both days with accompanied children aged 15 and under admitted FREE on both days.
