Nolan Lamkin’s Review of Putnam Park -
Over all I had a perfect weekend. I had a variety of track conditions, on Saturday (the track day) it was sunny and was about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. On Sunday (Race Day) it was Raining and a little windy.
On Saturday I started running lap times of around 1:35 then by the end of the day I was running about 1:21. I checked out the track the first session.
The first race on Sunday (I was riding with all SV 650s in both races) was in the rain and I got an okay start and 11 guys passed me. I got 2 riders going into the first turn and then got one more coming out of turn one going into turn two. A Supermotard wiped out in front of me. That knocked off another rider. The leader left most of us while I was stuck behind traffic. I started to click away the laps and the riders. I finally stated to see the leader in turn 8 while I’m in 4 then the next lap 7 then 6 then I was finally ONE turn away from him. I was able to wait a lap and pass him on the inside going into turn number 5. Then he passes me on the straight away because he is on a SV 650. I thought I cannot let him get away. I was pushing to get back in the lead. Then I knew I could only pass him in turn nine. I got on the gas a little too early and fell and finished 6th.
In the second race (Again with all SV 650) I had another okay start because I wasn’t taking the bike to the normal RPM because of the rain. I got passed by 10 SV’s and I passed one rider going into turn 1 then another going into turn 2. I passed two more riders in one lap then I got stuck behind him for 3-4 laps and I did not have time to catch the leader. I also didn’t ride as aggressively as I did in the first race. After that it was the same as the first race.
All in all I had a great weekend; I learned how to ride in the rain!
