Nelson Ledges -
Nolan Lamkin’s Nelson Ledges Review 8/28/13
This is one of the fastest tracks in the country so I shouldn’t have been able to keep up with the 450’s and 650’s, but I was able to. I was at a huge disadvantage because most of the track was a straight away. I averaged 92 mph.
On the first day all I ran was the 20 lapper and the 1 practice session. In the 20 lapper I was racing against all SV’s. I was able to get some good racing experience with one of the SV 650’s. I was following him for 5 laps then I started to get farther and farther away from him then 5 laps later I was able to catch back up with him. I lost traction on my front wheel going on the outside of him on right before the straight away. We battled for about 10 laps and he beat me by 0.097seconds.
The next day I raced against SV 650’s and 450’s. In the first race they had me starting 4 rows behind the last guy on the SV 650’s. I got an awesome start and caught them in the first turn. A guy had a mechanical on the 3rd lap and I battled with and SV 650. I was able to run consistent laps and look for an opportunity to pass the 650 with me putting pressure on him. He made a mistake on the turn right before the straight and I was ahead until he passed me on the last lap in the kink on the straight. I was able to stick with him and when he went wide in the last turn I was able to I beat him by 0.15 seconds.
My next race is the Formula 3 and 450’s combined. They had me starting me three rows behind the 450’s and I caught up with 2 of them by the first turn. I passed them coming out of turn 1. I was following the leader in turn three and I passed him going into turn 4. I was the leader halfway through first lap. I ran average lap times until he caught up then I picked up the pace again.
I thought I was pushing it last time I was at Nelson Ledges, but I dropped 2.8 seconds since the last time I was here. This was the only time I’ve been to the same track twice on the same bike.
