Due to age of my normal track lid, it was time for me to replace my helmet. After months of debating, I settled on the new Suomy Spec 1R Extreme. This helmet is BSI6658 Type A rated and approved for all competition in FIM (World Superbike, Supersport, etc), AMA, CCS, WERA, etc. I have also seen Max Biaggi and Reuben Xaus in Moto GP wearing this helmet (or a variation?). The helmet itself is top quality. The dual layer interior lining is all removable, and the material is very form fitting and comfortable. The helmet sizes a size large (I wear a medium on Shoei, and I had to get a large for the Suomy), so keep that in mind if you decide to buy one. The venting on this helmet is phenomenal. I had it out today and yesterday in the rain, 40-45 degrees, and there was no fogging whatsoever. There is a top center vent as well, which acts just like a hood scoop on your car, it really pushes cool air into the helmet (noticeably). The visor is an interesting gold mirror tint, that seems (at least to me) to block out enough light, without completely obstructing your view. Other visors are available if you want something darker but honestly, I don't think you will need to get one. I've never seen a standard visor like this on any other helmet I've looked at. The mechanism is very smooth, unlike the notchy feel on some other helmets. There is a clip lock to keep the visor down and prevent it from flying up at high speeds. Removing the visor will take some getting used to, but once I read the instructions and did it a few times, it was pretty painless. The best feature about this helmet compared to others, in my opinion, is your peripheral view is not obstructed. You can see clearly to all sides. This is very important whether you race on the track, or ride on the street. The noise level on the helmet is moderate (at least to me, noisy helmets don't really bother me, I wear earplugs). The fit and finish on the helmet is one of the best I've ever seen. The detail on the graphics looks like it was a custom job. The Chinese dragon image was crisp, vibrantly colored, and really stood out. This is definitely the best looking helmet I've ever owned, and I've owned various top model Arais and Shoeis. The helmet is also very light, ~3 lbs. When it's on your head, you hardly notice it after a while. The helmet comes with a helmet bag. I would definitely recommend this helmet because of it's top-notch quality, comfort, and fit.
